In days of the Middle Ages gold was often noticed as useful to health, and the belief supported opinion, that the rare and beautiful cannot be completely not healthy. Even some modern esoterics and forms of nonconventional medicine appoint to metal gold the healing power. A few gold salts really have medical properties and are used as pharmaceutical preparations in processing of an arthritis and other similar conditions. However, only salts and gold radioisotopes have pharmacological value as element (metal) gold is inert to all chemicals which faces in a body.

The gold sheet, plate or dust are used and in some foodstuffs of a gourmet, especially as sweets and drinks, as a decorative component. The gold plate was used in Medieval Europe as decorating in the foodstuffs and drinks, in the form of sheet, flakes or a dust, or on purpose to show riches of the owner or in belief, that something, that the valuable and rare should be favourable to health.



Gold can be used in food and has Number E 175. Goldwasser (German language: "Goldwater") - the traditional grassy liquor made in Gdansk, Poland, and Schwabach, Germany, also contains flakes of gold sheet. There are also some expensive cocktails which contain flakes of gold sheet. However, as metal gold is inert to all chemistry of a body, it does not add taste, has no any other food effect and leaves a body invariable.

Treatment of a teeth. Gold alloys are used in strengthening treatment of a teeth, especially in tooth restoration, such as crowns and constant bridges. The small pliability of gold alloys facilitates creation of the surpassing molar connecting a surface with other teeth, and results in, which are in general satisfactorier, than made by creation of crowns of porcelain. Use of gold crowns in a forward teeth, such as cutters, is approved in some cultures and discouraged in others.

Gold can be transformed into a thread and be used in an embroidery.
Gold is pliable and obedient, meaning, that it can be involved in very thin wire and can be broken in very thin sheets known as gold sheet.

Gold makes deep, intensive red colour when it is used as the agent of colouring in a cranberry glass.
